Why are retired NBA players so bitter?

The premise of this thread is silly. There are plenty of former basketball pros that marvel at today's players just like there are former pros from other sports that are talking about how the game was tougher and rougher back in the day. Just looking at football (soccer for you yanks), there is a vast gulf between how the game was played 20 years ago compared to today from a physical perspective. Some of the sliding tackles that would get player sent off today weren't even yellow carded back then and you have plenty of former pros talking about how soft todays players are. Charles Barkley is not representative of all former basketball players and Shaq never had a nice thing to say about other centers anyway, let's not act as if those two guys are representative of all former players...
