More important is the “Why?” The how is not so important. 2 posted on 01/29/2017 6:44:41 AM PST by blackdog [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 1 | View Replies ] To: Kaslin Obama and Kerry never grasped strategic realities. There is no serious leader in Israel that will ever agree to a “two state” solution. The Israelis bitterly regret that they allowed Gaza to evolve into an independent , militarized adjacent Palestinian state. A costly war was fought and missiles from Gaza rained on Israel. An even larger, better armed Palestinian state directly adjacent to Israel would be even more problematic and a constant threat. Face it. There will never be true peace between Palestinians and Israelis. Both have strong claims to the same land. Peace will come to the region only when one or the other ceases to be a definable political entity. The US can do little to foster peace. 3 posted on 01/29/2017 6:48:02 AM PST by allendale [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 1 | View Replies ] To: allendale The “Palestinians” will not negotiate without a precondition of the “Right of Return” which includes the UNLIMITED “RIGHT” OF ANY MUSLIM WHO CLAIMS THEIR FAMILY EVER EXISTED IN ISRAEL TO RETURN THERE— AND VOTE. Hence, what Obama/Kerry are pushing is THE END OF ISRAEL AS A JEWISH STATE. Under such terms, the “Two-State” garbage would be a COMPLETE FICTION. 4 posted on 01/29/2017 6:54:35 AM PST by Disestablishmentarian [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 3 | View Replies ] To: allendale Peace will come to the region only when one or the other ceases to be a definable political entity. That is the reality of conflict. It has been that way since man picked up a club many thousands of years ago. The long history of man is war. 5 posted on 01/29/2017 6:59:45 AM PST by cpdiii (Deckhand, Roughneck, Mud Man, Geologist, Pilot, Pharmacist, THE CONSTITUTION IS WORTH DYING FOR.) [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 3 | View Replies ] To: Kaslin The creation of Israel under the British Mandate after WWI and the UN after WWII was completely legitimate, as the territories that became Israel were the spoils of war wrested from the collapsed Ottoman Empire and the Central Powers after WWI that were administered under the British Mandate until after WWII. The claim that the Ottoman Empire had on those territories was no different than the British Mandate, that is, based on simple conquest. The interests of the Moslems that lived in those territories were considered along with the interests of the Jews that lived there and anyone else, like the Christians. The fact that the Israelis fought numerous successful wars against the combined armies of the Moslems reinforced their claims. What is never mentioned by the Moslems who lament their current status is the historical fact that, after WWII, many people all over the world were dispossessed, dislocated, and forcefully moved to other places in the aftermath of WWII. Millions of Germans were relocated from Polish areas that they had lived in for centuries, Millions of Punjabi Indians were forcefully moved to make way for Pakistani Moslems. The Japanese northern islands were lost to Russia as a spoil of war. The Chinese Communists invaded Tibet. The list is long of the forced migration of peoples as a result of armed conflict. It is long past time that the United States cease its pandering to the ongoing crocodile tears and woe-is-me lamentations of the Moslems who choose to associate themselves with the terror group known as the “Palestinians.” The Israelis have every right to claim the current territories that they are administering and should require that any Moslems who refuse to integrate to leave forthwith. There are many good reasons for the United States to fully engage with the Israelis as the allies they have proven themselves to be, and to disengage from the Moslem fanatics who have done nothing but create murder and mayhem unendingly for many decades. 6 posted on 01/29/2017 7:02:02 AM PST by DrPretorius [ Post Reply | Private Reply | To 1 | View Replies ] Disclaimer: Opinions posted on Free Republic are those of the individual posters and do not necessarily represent the opinion of Free Republic or its management.
