Hey guys, so here is just a rough idea I had rolling around in my head after hearing about that "leaked" Vault of Glass stuff. It would be a pretty easy thing to make happen from a technical standpoint and would add a lot to the lore of the game and allow us to play the older content in a newer competitive environment. Premise: The city Consensus has recently appointed a group of Veteran Guardians a secondary post under the Vanguard known as the Old Guard; Guardians who have survived the toughest fights and have yet to be fully recognized for their actions. They would take up shop in the upper courtyard of the tower, making use of the currently vacant location. Fireteam Diamond (names here are all subject to change) would be selected by the Old Guard to be their representatives as they have seen some of the most intense action without ever being broken. Vendors: Each member of the team would offer Year 1 exclusive gear with updates to fit the current meta. The team would consist of three Guardians each of great skill. Alice-7, a female Exo Titan who specializes as a Striker and earned her legend at the Twilight Gap, being one of the few to survive but refusing any sort of spotlight. Now, however, she is happy to stand tall and serve as an example to all those who wish to protect the city. Her personality would be that of a truly humble hero who loves to celebrate the victories of all those who protect the city. She would take a liking to you for your deeds of killing the Hive gods and helping the "Old Wolf" finish grieving. Alice-7 would be the vendor in charge of getting you your armor and would offer special bonuses if you bring her Ascendant and Radiant materials. Wyatt is a Human Gunslinger who was the lone survivor of an escort mission gone awry. As he and his group of hunters were escorting a group of civilians from No Man's Land to the City, they were ambushed by a Fallen Army preparing to mount a probing attack against the city. When all hope was lost, Wyatt channeled as much of his light into his weapon to kill six Fallen Walkers before he passed out. When he woke up, he was safely within the city walls with his mentor standing over him, ready with a situation report. While he never talks about the battle, it is clear that his losses weigh heavily on him and, while he prefers to keep to himself, he opened up to Alice-7 and became a member of Fireteam Diamond. He would also start to open up to you as you continue to prove yourself. Surely you are so driven because you have lost something too... Right? Being an excellent gunslinger, he would be more than happy to help you with your weapons and weapon accessories. Finally, the team's spiritual center, Alder/Gwyn (male or female since I have no specific ties to one or another), an Awoken Warlock who has embraced the Sun and all of its teachings, becoming a master of their own brand of the power. At a young age, they were a normal Awoken living within the walls of the city, their family returning after the failed escape in the Asteroid Belt. They studied to become a cryptarch, but was caught outside the walls at the battle of the Six Fronts. A week later, they were revived by a ghost and told of their new purpose. Elated, Alder/Gwyn rushed back to the tower to begin their study, taking a liking to the lore of the Vex as well as the power that the Sunsinger discipline offered, learning to use it to heal themselves and their allies, and burn away all enemies to ashes. Being the lore expert, Alder/Gwyn would be in connection with all of the Vanguard Scouts to keep up to date on everything going on and would be who you would get bounties and missions. Being the newest member, they will sometimes defer to the better judgement of their teammates when it came to combat. (Again, the lore of this character is more up in the air. Also, I would rather the Titan be the one to hand out the missions, but this seems the most balanced currently) New Events: Bounties: Bounties here would harken back to Year One activities such as hunting down the enemies and exploring the world around you. Patrol missions would also have a new variety of the multi-tier bounties allowing tons of replay. Missions: "Welcome to the Old Guard" - Speak with each vendor and learn about them (Small cutscene) "Show them the ropes"/"Learn the Ropes" - As you all know, the Old Guard is a concept that already exists in game and so I figure it would be a good idea to have a mission that reflects it. "Show them the ropes" requires that someone with the old guard shader and emblem find a newer player without these things and go through a series of redone year one missions (like the Garden Spire and Eye of a Gatelord just to name two that could easily be retooled with a new premise). The "Learn the Ropes" would be for those who do not yet have the shader and emblem and would be to accompany the veteran on the mission. This mission would be given by Alder/Gwyn and would grant each player a new shader and emblem "Trouble in Paradise" - Speak to Wyatt and receive a mission to explore the cosmodrome to find the remnants of a dying signal ending in a fight with an archon priest from the house of Kings. His transmission would lead you to the Moon to take on the archon of House Exile. The reward would be a weapon from Year 1 with a god roll on it, allowing all players to have a competitive edge in both Vanguard and Crucible environments to level the curve that is currently in play. "Tracing the Signal" - After returning to the tower, you would speak with Alder/Gwyn as they would decrypt the message to send you along. You would then travel into the hellmouth and find the fallen house of Exile taking up roost in the Abomination Heist room. After you defeat the archon, a portal would open up of Hive origin and you would be teleported to the Crota's End raid environment where you would see a Hive Fanatic being ascended by a taken force and hear a voice whisper from the darkness. "Smother their light. The Vex will open the path..." After hearing the voice, the portal would close and you would be returned to the moon. Report in to the Old Guard. "The Endless Crusade" - Go to Venus and investigate a strange signal that has re-emerged. Fight a taken Cyclops and take the damaged transceiver from it. Turn this in to Alice-7 as she recognizes the old code the messages are in. Endgame: "The Endless Crusade" - Speak to each member of Fireteam Diamond as they each have a mission for you. "Skolas' Folly" (Wyatt) - Wanting to get you prepared for what is to come, Wyatt contacted Variks in the reef. Their goal, to send in Devil Splicers to the prison with enough SIVA to enhance the Wolves within the prison. Skolas, being quite the Vex-Tech fanatic, he would embrace this new technology and augment himself, combining his own fight mechanics with those of the Vosik encounter of the Wrath of the Machine Raid (Volatile Light and SIVA Overshield with Spinners all around the arena). Complete the Prison of Elders' new challenge to complete the mission and receive a special gift from Wyatt (no idea what yet, but the mission ideas are more important at the moment. "Return to the Dark Below" (Alder/Gwyn): Unsettled by the potential Hive threat that may be growing in the depth of the Hellmouth and sends you down to clear it out. However, the taken presence has corrupted everything and would alter every fight in a new and unique way, combining mechanics from the original Crota's End Raid and the King's Fall Raid. The final boss would be the Fanatic of Crota seen in the Court of Oryx and Oryx Himself. A smaller Oryx who goes around the Arena and will take a guardian to fight in an arena until the oversoul. In the Arena, the guardian sent in must kill a knight and steal the sword before being pulled out to deal damage. If he fails to deal damage with the sword, the team would be wiped. "Kabr's Last Willing Testament" (Alice-7): After decrypting the transceiver, Alice discovers a terrible truth. When the Taken corrupted the Vault of Glass, they re-wrote time to do so. As the Taken corruption seeps deeper into the Vault, old threats are being revived in a new, nightmarish way as the Vex Collective sends greater threats through time to undo what Kabr and his fireteam have done. For those who did not know, Kabr fashioned the Aegis, the main tool used to defeat the Templar and Atheon. Without him, the Vex would emerge from the Vault unopposed and consume everything. Boss fights would be the same as before, but with a few new mechanics as well as a time limit on hard mode. The new mechanics would just be slight difficulty modifiers (like preventing the Templar from teleporting, killing two gorgons in the maze, and opening both portals when fighting Atheon and having only two members left behind and two pulled to each portal). After completing the final task, you would get congratulated by the members of the Old Guard and the Consensus, receiving an artifact that would give you the Nightfall bonus from year one so long as you have your super. The End Goal: As the release of Rise of Iron is supposed to be a big old shot of nostalgia, I figured this would be the perfect way to bring everything full circle before Destiny 2. As I said before, this is a very rough idea. What do you guys think? I would love to know and want to make this better.
